What this covers: A simple “safe update” checklist for non-devs and admins.
Steps
-
Take a backup first:
-
Use host backups or a backup plugin (confirm you can restore).
-
-
Update in this order (generally safest):
-
Plugins
-
Theme
-
WordPress core
-
-
Update a few at a time (not 30 at once).
-
After each batch of updates, test:
-
Homepage
-
Contact form
-
Any key landing pages
-
Checkout/login (if applicable)
-
-
If something breaks:
-
Roll back using your backup/restore
-
Or disable the last-updated plugin (via WP admin or hosting file manager).
-
-
Document what changed:
-
Note which plugin caused it and the version number.
-
-
Re-try safely:
-
Update that plugin alone on staging first (if available).
