Fix “Too Many Redirects” or SSL Errors with Cloudflare + WordPress

What this covers: The most common SSL mode + redirect loop fixes.

Steps

  1. In Cloudflare, go to SSL/TLS.

  2. Set SSL mode appropriately:

    • If your origin has a valid cert: Full (Strict) is best.

    • If origin cert is missing/invalid: Full temporarily (then fix origin cert).

  3. In WordPress, confirm Home URL and Site URL both use https://.

  4. Clear caches:

    • Cloudflare cache (if you’re caching)

    • WordPress caching plugin

    • Browser cache (or use an incognito window)

  5. Check for duplicate redirect rules:

    • Cloudflare “Always Use HTTPS”

    • WordPress/SEO plugin redirect settings

    • Server-level redirects in .htaccess or host panel
(Use one primary approach, not three stacked.)

  6. Test again:

    • Visit http:// version and confirm it resolves cleanly to https:// once.

  7. If still broken:

    • Temporarily disable Cloudflare proxy (gray cloud) to isolate whether it’s Cloudflare or origin.
