If you have forgotten your WordPress password, the safest first step is to use the website’s own account recovery feature. Your WordPress password is not necessarily the same as your email or hosting password.
Reset using the login screen
- Open the WordPress login page provided by your website administrator.
- Select Lost your password?, when available.
- Enter your WordPress username or the email address associated with the account.
- Select the password reset option and check your inbox.
- Open the most recent reset email and follow the link before it expires.
- Create a long, unique password and store it in a trusted password manager.
- Return to the login page and sign in with the new password.
If you did not receive the email
- Check Spam, Junk, Promotions, or quarantine folders.
- Confirm you entered the email address associated with your WordPress user, not simply any company mailbox.
- Wait briefly and request another reset once, rather than submitting many requests.
- If the website has email-delivery problems, the recovery email might not arrive even when the account exists.
If you no longer control the email address
Contact your website administrator or hosting support. They may need to verify your identity and update the account email or reset access through an approved administrative process.
Important security tips
Never send your existing or new password in a support ticket. Treat unexpected password-reset emails as suspicious; if you did not request the reset, do not follow the link and notify your website administrator if the messages persist.
Still need help?
Send the website address, your WordPress username or account email, and the error shown after attempting recovery. Do not include passwords or one-time codes.
