Add or Update DNS Records in Cloudflare (A, CNAME, TXT)

What this covers: Editing records safely and verifying propagation.

Steps

  1. Log into Cloudflare → select the site.

  2. Go to DNS → Records.

  3. Click Add record (or edit an existing record).

  4. Choose record type:

    • A = points a hostname to an IP

    • CNAME = points a hostname to another hostname

    • TXT = verification strings (SPF, domain verification, etc.)

  5. Enter:

    • Name (example: @ or www)

    • Target (IP/hostname/value)

    • TTL (Auto is usually fine)

  6. Decide proxy status:

    • Proxied (orange cloud) for web traffic protection

    • DNS Only (gray cloud) for mail or services that shouldn’t be proxied

  7. Save, then verify:

    • Check the site loads (for web changes)

    • Use DNS lookup tools (or wait a few minutes and re-check)
